Healthcare Staffing Tips: How to Select Nursing Scrubs

Before you can begin working or volunteering as a nurse, you’ll need to pick the right scrubs. Here are some useful healthcare staffing tips on finding the perfect scrubs.

Before you can begin working or volunteering as a nurse, you’ll need to pick the right scrubs. Even so, it’s important to remember that not every hospital or healthcare facility you work in will require you to provide scrubs. That said, when you need to wear scrubs, you might also need some help choosing them. Here are some useful healthcare staffing tips on finding the perfect scrubs.

Choosing the Color

The first of our first healthcare staffing tips for selecting scrubs has to do with color. Keep in mind that when you volunteer, the color of scrubs you can wear might be heavily regulated. Even though you might not think much of having to wear white scrubs, there could be a crucial reason for that. Different uniform colors could be used as a system to indicate what role an employee plays in the hospital: a floor guide might wear red, while a volunteer nurse might wear white. If you are lucky enough to work in a hospital that does not have a strict uniform policy, then you might be able to wear ones with fun designs and patterns on them.

Choosing the Style

The second of our healthcare staffing tips will discuss scrub style. It may be tempting to think of your scrubs as another set of sleepwear, but despite appearances, that’s not the purpose they’re supposed to serve. Full time registered nurses and certified nursing assistants will need to wear their scrubs far more than you will need to wear yours.

For Men: shirts with pockets, pants with elastic, and pants with drawstrings

For Women: Similar styles like those named above are available to women, but they also have maternity styles, v-neck, and scoop neck shirts as well.

How to Wear Them

While you are working, be sure to wear underclothes with your scrubs. Occasionally, you might be able to alter the uniform you are assigned – adding a long-sleeved undershirt for when it’s cold, for example – but be sure to check in with your supervisors if this is acceptable. Also, when you don’t need to wear your scrubs just leave them at home for the time being, and don’t forget to take care of them the way you would for your regular everyday clothes.
